Volleyball, like all sports, can have such a positive impact on your life if you let it. It can take you places you have never imagined and can bring some of the best people into your life. You need to find what sparks your fire and let whatever that may be push you to be the best volleyball player and version of yourself. For me, it was the coaches I was presented with.
My middle school volleyball coach came up to me one day after practice and told me that I should quit volleyball and maybe try cross country instead. Not only was I completely heartbroken, but I was also filled with rage. My middle school coach knew nothing about the sport and I knew that this was the age I should be perfecting the basics of volleyball. Luckily for me, I started going to watch the high school practices and became very close with the head coach. She took an interest in me and pushed me to be the player I had always wanted to be.
I truly believe that because that coach sparked my fire, it gave me the opportunity to make it to consecutive state tournaments and to later be signed to play collegiate volleyball. Not only did she have an impact on my athletic career but I also took all the advice she gave me to heart and use it in my everyday life. There is always something that keeps you coming back to the sport with more and more passion every time, it’s your job to find it and let it drive you.
